Carolina West Sports Medicine to hold free sports physicals at Harris Regional Hospital on June 9

Sylva, N.C. – Carolina West Sports Medicine and local physicians will hold free sports physicals at Harris Regional Hospital on Monday, June 9 for Smoky Mountain High School and Cherokee High School athletes, as well as rising 7th and 8th grade Jackson County middle school athletes.
The physicals are intended for students participating in the 2014-2015 school athletic season, and will take place at Carolina West’s main office location, just inside the west entrance at Harris, at the following designated times. No appointment is necessary.
5:00 – Rising 7th Grade
5:30 – Rising 8th Grade
6:00 – Rising 9th Grade
6:30 – Rising 10th Grade
7:00 – Rising 11th Grade
7:30 – Rising 12th Grade

Athletes will receive paperwork from their coach or school athletic director, which will be required upon arrival. Parents do not have to attend with their child if the required paperwork is completed and signed.
Dr. Judd Garbarino, primary care sports medicine physician for Carolina West, accompanied by orthopaedic surgeons and physician assistants from Sylva Orthopaedic Associates, as well as several physicians from other local practices, will complete physicals. In addition, Carolina West’s certified athletic trainers, office staff, and physical therapists from WestCare Health System will be on hand to assist. These medical specialists will complete physicals, answer questions, and provide expertise on staying safe during the athletic season.
Carolina West Sports Medicine provides comprehensive sports medicine for high school athletes in Jackson, Swain, Graham, Cherokee, Macon and Clay Counties in North Carolina, and Rabun County in Georgia, offering sports medicine care and athletic training for athletes at 10 high schools in the region. Free physicals for other schools under Carolina West’s coverage are being provided as well.
In addition to their main office at Harris Regional Hospital, Carolina West operates a full-service physical therapy clinic in the Health and Human Sciences Building at Western Carolina University, which is staffed with highly-trained physical therapists available to provide convenient and comprehensive rehabilitation to injured and recovering athletes of all ages.
