President and CEO
Steve Heatherly has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of WestCare since March 2012, having previously held finance and strategy leadership positions at WestCare Health System since 2001. He has also served as CEO of a multi-specialty, physician-owned neurosciences practice in the region. Steve holds a master’s degree in health administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a master’s degree in business administration from Western Carolina University. He received a B.S. in finance from the University of North Carolina-Asheville.
Steve has provided financial leadership to WestCare Health System in several roles, including as Chief Financial Officer, with responsibility for a number of hospital departments such as Finance, Accounting, Patient Accounting, Patient Registration, Information Technology and the operations of collaborative physician partnerships. Steve was Executive Vice-President for WestCare Health System, a role in which he pioneered employed physician models for the system. Steve is a Certified Medical Practice Executive through the Medical Group Management Association. He serves on several local boards, including: Southwestern Community College Foundation, Good Samaritan Clinic of Jackson County, Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, Western North Carolina Health Network, Clyde Youth Basketball Organization, and Advanced Home Care.
Chief Nursing Executive
Anetra comes to WestCare with 21 years of experience in nursing leadership, most recently serving as Vice President of Trauma and Emergency Services at Grady Health System in Atlanta. She held responsibility for key clinical departments as the Executive Director of Nursing Services at Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery, Ala. where she led the implementation of electronic medication administration. Anetra has also held administrative positions in Patient Care Services at hospitals in Alabama and Florida, and served as Senior Director of Surgical/Trauma Services at Shands Jacksonville. Her clinical experience includes service at the bedside as a staff nurse and charge nurse in critical care and ICU, pediatric intensive care and post trauma units.
Anetra received a Master of Public Health from the University of Alabama at Birmingham where she also obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She holds a Nurse Executive Advanced certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
VP of Quality
Luanna Easton’s professional experience spans four decades and includes roles in both the clinical and administrative settings. She has held senior leadership roles in operations, quality and performance management in the last 20 years. Before becoming an administrator, Luanna served as Director of Radiology at Harris Regional Hospital after working as a regional radiology technologist at the St. Joseph campus of Mission Hospital. She received her clinical training at the Memorial Mission School of Radiologic Technology in Asheville, NC. Luanna holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Kennedy Western University and completed a Patient Safety Fellowship at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va. She received Baldrige Examiner Certification from North Carolina State University. She is currently responsible for the Quality division at WestCare and oversees the regulatory activities and compliance functions of the Harris and Swain hospitals.
VP of Physician Network
Dedra Vinson joined WestCare Health System in 1997 and currently serves as the vice-president of the physician network with additional responsibility for Sylva Urgent Care and Mountain Regional Radiation Therapy Center. She has extensive experience in managing and operating physician practices. Prior to joining WestCare she served as administrator of WestCare Medical Park of Franklin, an outpatient facility providing primary and subspecialty care as well as laboratory, imaging and rehabilitation services. Dedra has experience in every aspect of the medical setting having worked in both clinical and non-clinical positions. She obtained her clinical training and education at Lanier College and Bernau College. The physician network spans the WestCare service area and currently includes eleven physician practices and nearly 50 providers.
Chief Financial Officer
Mike McKnight has over 10 years of experience in healthcare finance. Previously he worked for Health Management Associates where held positions as the CFO at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital in Anniston, AL, CFO at Upstate Carolina Medical Center in Gaffney, SC, and Controller at Carlisle Regional Medical Center in Carlisle, PA. Mike has served as Materials Finance Manager for Select Specialty Hospitals. His experience includes revenue cycle management, strategic planning, cost-control management, utilization management, and service line development.
Mike holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, MI. His interests outside work include golf, fishing and outdoor activities with his family.
Chief Information Officer
Greg Copen has more than 20 years of experience in the information technology field. He is a graduate of Mountain State University with a degree in organization leadership, management and development. He also holds a degree in business computer programming from Forsyth Technical Community College. Greg began his career in manufacturing and transitioned to the healthcare industry as the IT Director for an HCA hospital in 1998. Greg served as Director of IT for Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Va., an affiliate of Mountain States Health Alliance. His experience includes software system conversions and implementations. He has redesigned and developed new technology infrastructures for existing and newly built hospitals.
Chief Human Resources Officer
Becky Wilkes has 21 years of experience in human resources at WestCare Health System. She serves on the senior leadership team as director of human resources. Becky holds certification as a senior professional in human resources (SPHR) attaining the credential in 2009. At WestCare she is responsible for leading all aspects of human resources, including performance management, employee satisfaction, career development, benefits management and labor standards compliance.
Chief Community Engagement Officer
Lucretia Stargell has been with WestCare Health System since 2007 and leads the communications, marketing, community relations and physician recruitment and liaison functions of the organization. Prior to joining WestCare, Lucretia worked in marketing and media relations at a hospital in the Midwest after a 10-year career in print and television journalism. She is a graduate of Hollins College and completed additional studies at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. In her role at WestCare, Lucretia is responsible for engaging the community and internal stakeholders on WestCare’s mission, growth and brand in serving the region with the best possible healthcare experience.
